E46 M3 Sub Frame Reinforcement

Below are a bunch of pictures from a sub frame reinforcement on an E46 M3. The pictures are areas prepped before the plates are welded on, then the plates put on, and the area coated. Also in the trunk we show where the rosetta weld is added in addition to the 3 factory tack welds. Instead of adding an additional piece of metal to cover where the cuts are int trunk area we weld the gap closed and grind down the welds even. This makes for a cleaner look.

The areas that are welded are now coated in rubberized undercoating.

Honda S2000 KW Install

Below are some pictures of a KW install on a Honda S2000. On the pictures of the KW's we original tried to see how the car looked at the highest setting which is why the tender spring is fully compressed. At the highest setting was not optimal we adjusted the ride height to the pictures shown of the car on the alignment rack and ground.

E36 M3

On this E36 M3 it came in for a few installs and maintenance. One being installing the ground control coil over conversion kit. Once we got to taking apart the rear of the car we noticed a big problem but a common one with E36 M3's. The rear shock tower on the passenger side was starting to crack and rip out. This is a scary situation especially since this customer tracks his car and failure from the mount with track speeds can be very dangerous.

Before putting the suspension back together both sides were reinforced but the passenger side also repaired.

Supersprint header install

There are many different headers out for the E46 M3 but one that sets itself apart from the rest is the Supersprint V1 stepped header. On this E46 M3 we installed a set along with the supersprint section 1. Due to the larger diameter where the section 1 meets the header on the V1 you need the supersprint section 1 to match up.

CTS-V Stainless Works Exhaust

On this CTS-V we installed a Stainless works Cat back exhaust. This is one of the better options for exhaust on this car as the quality is excellent but you also get the full mid pipe for the price of some other companies axle back.

Triple Adjustable Motons For Sale!!

We have for sale a set of triple adjustable Moton dampers for an E46 M3. They were built for SCCA T2 specs. So this means that they were built to use stock style springs. However for an extra $400 we will sell you a ground control coil over conversion kit that will work with these dampers. If not they will work with any stock style springs. The ground control rear shock mounts are not included.

They were used for the 2010/2011 SCCA race season so a total of about 10 races or so. There is some wear and tear on the outside, which is normal for any damper. There is nothing wrong with any damper, they all function 100%. The front remote canisters have no Moton stickers due to them being rapped in gold foil. It would be a good idea to get them rebuilt before installing them. If you are a serious buyer we can get more detailed pictures. There are no quick disconnects on all dampers but you can get new hoses from motion if you would like them.

Price $6,000 or $6,400 with ground control coil over conversion kit.

It is becoming more common now too see E46 M3's and s-series sub frame cracks. Below are a few pictures of the turner motorsports plates welded on an E46 M3. The sub frame bushings were also replaced with AKG motorsports Bushings, engine mounts with new OEM, Rogue Transmission Bushings, and a new flex disc.

Below are a couple pictures of an Evo IX from a customer who also works for Rush Group Detailing (He did our Black E46 M3 and it looks amazing). He wanted to switch up his exhaust for something that does not drone as much on the highway. We installed a nice titanium exhaust that completely changed the drone. Only issue was that this exhaust had a small crack under the oxygen sensor but that was easily fixed since we had a some titanium filler rod here.

VS Motorsports E92 M3 SCCA T2 Build

Recently we started the build of our E92 M3 from a track day car to a full Race car. :D What is unusually about this build is we will be removing most of our modifications and only keeping the JRZ triple adjustable struts/shocks. Due to the SCCA T2 rules the E92 M3 is not allowed modifications yet, or even upgraded springs or brakes (we can upgrade to stainless lines and upgraded fluid and pads) . However we are allowed to upgrade the struts/shocks and so is any other car in class, as long as they keep the stock location/mounting points and stock springs. Some may have seen from our track day car thread a picture of the JRZ's we are running. Here is a Link to the track car thread.

For our class some of the E92 M3 restrictions are we must weigh at least 3700lbs with driver after the race is over. 18x10 max wheel size for front and rear. Max tire size of 295/35/18

Where the car is at now, is stripped down to bare metal on the interior, to prepare the car for the full roll cage. The cage will be nascar style door bars on driver and passenger, with the x-style design in the rear. We will make sure to pictures of the cage progress to post up.

A few other things we will be adding are an Aim data acquisition, Recaro Pro Racer hans seat, Quick Disconnect steering wheel (not sure which wheel yet), center and driver safety net, and radio for pit communications.

E46 M3 Sub Frame Reinforcement

This E46 M3 had a small crack on the passenger side rear. It was a small hair line fracture but before it got any worse he decided to get it fixed so no other damage done. Along with the reinforcement the camber arms were changed with turner motorsports and the sub frame and rear trailing arm bushings are replaced with AKG Motorsports bushings.

Recently we had Two E92 M3's in with the alpine white going back to stock to trade it in and the sparkling graphite M3 getting some of the mods. The full Kreissieg exhaust and tail lights went on the graphite car. With the valvetronic exhaust its able to go from an tame tolerable exhaust note and with a switch of the settings a full open exhaust sound. We could here the car a quarter of the mile down the street, no problem with the loudest setting! Have to admit though it does sound good.

E46 M3 Passenger Nascar Bar

Right before the SCCA Runoffs we had the passenger side of our cage re-done. Reason was for the class regulations the only way you could have you door gutted out was for safety reason (ex. your cage needing the room). Since our door was gutted out we needed a proper nascar style door bar. We took some pictures before we sent the car off to paint to see the quality of the work.

E36 M3 RTAB Pocket

We always suggest, especially to E36 M3 owners who track their car, to reinforce the Rear trailing Arm Pocket. On this chassis they have been known to crack which can eventually lead to them ripping out. This would be a worse case scenario on a track when your driving at the limit. What we do is reinforce this area with a metal plate and weld it to the chassis. Below are a couple pictures of the job after the reinforcement.

On this Factory-Five we did some fabrication/reinforcement for the solid rear end. The stock components where not up to the task after adding solid parts and sticky tires. Normally we do not see these cars but they seem like it would be so much fun to drive on the track!

VS Motorsports Track Day Car!

Recently we had some professional pictures taken of our E92 M3 track day car. Right now we have been using it to have fun at the local tracks in the area and doing some testing. Most of the time we spend at Autobahn Country Club in Joliet IL but we love making it Road America, Blackhawk ,Grattan , Gingerman, and some others.

Mod wise the E92 has Dinan Springs, Dinan 4.10, Dinan intake, Dinan exhaust, BMW motorsports front lip and BBS Gt4 wheels. We are still on stock brakes but upgraded pads/lines, and fluid. Reason is over the winter this car will be converted to a full track car and race in SCCA T2 class. The T2 class does not allow any mods (sadly), besides upgraded struts/shocks and exhaust. So we have a set of specially made JRZ triple adjustable, that are to use the stock springs and mounts. For the other mods we will be taking the rest of them off and putting the stock components back on. Going back to stock isn't fun but there is nothing like putting the E92 M3 through its test in wheel to wheel racing.

However we were able to get some times at certain tracks with the mods we have now for comparison when we test in T2 form later.

Since we race in the SCCA we have picked up BFG as our tire sponsor and have been doing some testing with the BFG R1 compound with this car and our E46 (The times above are with the BFG R1 compound). However we recently got to try out the BFG R1(S) compound which would be comparable to the Hoosier A6. We tested these on the E46 and we ran faster times with BFG than the hoosiers! Thats huge as the Hoosier A6 has always been known as the fastest tire in our class. We can't wait to get a set on the E92 and test them out!

Race Car Sunday to Rebuild Monday!

Last Sunday VS Motorsports SCCA T2 E46 M3 was running the National Championship Race. On Monday morning it was already being torn apart for a complete overhaul. Everything from the engine being taken apart to bare block for a rebuild, to the interior being taking out to cut the OEM wiring harness. The car is going through a transformation towards a NASA GTS/BMW CCA Build. This transformation will allow us to modify the car much more than the T2 class. Then the new E92 M3 will be the new SCCA T2 race car. The E46 M3 is going through the biggest changes right now and we will try to keep you posted on the progress.

Recently on an E60 M5 we installed a Eurocharged Crank Pulley which will gain about 10Hp and 8Wtq. At the Same time we also installed a new water pump as preventative maintenance. Pictured is the difference from the stock pulley to the eurocharged. The stock pulley is the silver one.

While doing out first SMG to Manual Swap, on that same car we also installed the VF Street Sport kit. This car went through a big transformation from when it came in here to when it left. It went from SMG to manual, and N/A to forced induction. To go along with the supercharger a couple gauges were added, which were the AEM air to fuel ratio and Boost gauge. SMG to Manual Information!!!

Many People with SMG E46 M3's are always worried about their Hydraulic Pumps failing as they are an expensive fix. They can cost almost $2,500 for a replacement pump from BMW. It makes you wonder how much would it cost to just switch to a manual and not have to worry anymore? For some people opting to switch to manual before a problem, may be able to make a good amount of their money back by selling their used pump and parts.

If you are looking to get the manual swap done, we finished the swap for our good customer and now have the information that many people could not find. We now know without a doubt this can be done, what parts are needed, and what software to get. Having the manual will give you the piece of mind for no more guessing what the problems are, no more replacing smg relays, hydraulic pumps. accumulators, re setting smg adaptations, and worry about smg issues.

Pricing-We now have a price that the swap can be completed for, minus the manual transmission or bell housing you will need. Below are some facts people need to know about the manual swap.

What you will need.

-You will need either a manual transmission or just the bell housing off a manual car. (Some people have machined the smg bell housing and inserted the necessary parts from the manual cars but we have not done this and you could run the risk of machining the bell housing wrong and then you are stuck. Then still have to buy a new bell housing or transmission.)

-Install the necessary parts missing on a SMG car that a Manual has. We have the list already and know what needs to be ordered. Some of these parts can be upgraded to aftermarket such as the shifter (short shifter), Clutch slave cylinder line, shift boot, etc. Also this is the perfect time to replace the clutch, upgrade clutch or change flywheel.

Updated Software to have the car recognize that it is now a manual. This will turn off the gear indicator and the SMG fault code lights.

-Lastly you will lose your neutral safety switch and cruise control. Only way to make them work is for us to build a harness to the DME since there is no harness to purchase from BMW. This would take a lot of time for us to do on the first car. So instead of doing that we can delete the neutral safety switch. By doing this it means the car will not have cruise control, and the car could potential start in gear. You will need to take extra precaution to make sure not start the car in gear or it can jump forward/backwards potential hitting a car in front or behind you.

Kris Von Sydows SCCA National Championship Qualifying Lap

It has been a crazy week for qualifying. The top 11 qualifiers have better times than the previous Runoffs record!! So 11 cars have beaten the previous track record which is un-heard of. We are currently 11th on the grid with a 2:30.4 out of 26 cars. Below is a link of Kris's fastest qualifying lap of the week. M3 Road Trip

Last week we had a customer from Canada on a road trip to chicago have some issues with his car that needed to be fixed before his trip back. What ended up being wrong was during the install of the headers another place had mixed up the oxygen sensor locations which was causing his car to have problems. We were able to diagnose his issue and he was able to make it back from his road trip. Check out the picture with all the bugs from the trip.

OEM E36 M3

One of our good customers who takes very good care of his cars came in with his E36 M3 four door. He needed a freshen up with his suspension and bushings. Since this car only sees street driving everything was replaced with oem parts. Everything from the shocks/struts, springs, front control arm bushings, engine mounts, trans mounts, rear trailing arm bushings, sub frame bushings, differential mounts, and a few more things was replaced. This car is now driving like how it was when it was brand new. Our customer takes such great care of his cars that he would be the perfect person to buy a car from.

AFE Stage 2 intake

Recently we installed the AFE Stage 2 intake on a 135i. This intake is very well put together and much better than having two cone intakes sitting free in the engine bay.

E36 M3 Bushing Overhaul

We did not get many pictures of the install or the car. However this car was a clean Estoril Blue E36 M3 with a technique tuning turbo kit. We replaced many bushings on this car as the age and the power were putting a toll on most bushings. Everything from Sub frame bushings, rear trailing arm bushings, front control arm bushings, differential bushings, engine mounts, transmission mounts, flex disc and the whole rear control arms. Along with this the rear trailing arm pockets were reinforced as this is a coming problem in E36 m3's for the pockets to start to tear out. Below are a few pictures of some of the bushings.

Kris Von Sydows SCCA National Championship Race at Road America

Coming up towards the end of the month Kris Von Sydow owner and driver for VS Motorsports will be racing September 25th for the national championship in T2 class!! Kris is the Points Winner/leader for the Central Division and will be racing against 25 plus people at the Championship race at Road America. Race starts at approximately 11:30am on Sunday and qualifying Monday-Thursday earlier in the week.

E46 M3 Valve Adjustment

Most valve adjustments customer choose to replace the known Vanos bolts that have failed on people. We recently did this to an E46 M3 along with replace the vanos filter, Differential cover (with bushings), diff fluid, trans fluid, and brake fluid flush.

Below is a picture of the back side of the cam gears where you can see the ends of the silver bolts that were replaced. On rare occasions some people have seen these back out and cause damage.

Simple Maintenance

On this red E46 M3 the Serpentine belt actually tore apart from the pulleys going bad. The pulley bearings eventually seized and tore apart the belt. We replaced both pulleys and the belt. The car runs great now but if your car is making noise from the pulleys do not wait soo long that this can happen. Doing regular maintenance to make sure your car is in good running shape is your best bet to prevent this.

Toyota Supra

335i Turbo Swap

On the 07 335i sedan we had the turbos swapped out for brand new ones because the old set was leaking. We have been looking at turbo upgrades for this car but due to this being a daily driver we could not wait for the old turbos to be upgraded.

Below are a few pictures of an Active Autowerke X-pipe that we recently installed. This x-pipe is is paired up with a dinan muffler that was previously on the car. Now with the stock catalytic convertors and resonators off the car it has that awesome high revving BMW V8 sound.

Porsche Maintenance

Lately we have been getting more calls asking if we work on Porsches from general maintenance to performance. We have porsche diagnostic equipment and our techs are skilled with them too, so that is no problem for us. We really do not like to limit ourselves on the service we can offer and the more makes we can specialize in the better for our customers. Either it be as simple as an oil change on a BMW, roll cage in a Mustang, to a race alignment on Porsche, we can handle it all.

VF Engineering Stage 2 Supercharger Install

On a E46 M3 convertible we installed the VF Stage 2 supercharger system. This kit really changes the power of the M3 by adding over 200whp over a stock M3. Originally this kit was a stage 1 but VF offers their kits where they can be upgraded. Our customer decided he needed more power and opted for stage 2 upgrade. When going forced induction it is a good idea to monitor the Air/fuel ratio and Boost. These gauges were added and place at the top of the steering column. To help with handling the extra power the stage 1 HPF clutch was also installed. Below is a dyno graph from VF Engineerings website that shows the stock M3 vs the Stage 2.

Kris Von Sydows Cat National 2nd Place Finish!!!

This past weekend Kris had the Cat national race with the Milwaukee region at Road America. Kris Von Sydow, VS Motorsports owner and driver placed 2nd in a field of 12! Kris was able to work past two positions during the race even though it was shorten due to previous races accidents. Kris races in Touring 2 class with SCCA in a 2004 BMW M3. This is the last race before the national championship in September which is also at Road America. For anyone looking to watch the national championship race it will be 9/25 at 11:30am.

RIde Height

Recently this E92 M3 came to us with the ride height all different in each corner. We set the ride height to where the customer requested and did an alignment. Z4M Evolve Automotive Tune

Recently we had a Z4M race car that previously had a tune already but he was looking for every bit of power he can get since it is a race car. The modifications it has are CSL Headers, Race Exhaust, AFE Filter, and 100 octane.

In the graph it shows the run before the evolve tune and after. The gains for this car are awesome because it is made all in the RPMs the car will see on track.

E39 M5 Alpha-N tune

As we have just became an evolve dealer and has the ability to flash cars on site, we made the decision to add this our personal cars. Evolve tunes are best in the industry and we want them even on our own cars. First car we did was an E39 M5 that evolve had tuned for Alpha-N, which will delete the mass air flow sensors.

Below is some information From Evolve Automotive's website about the E39 M5 Alpha-N tune

The Mass Air Flow sensors are a well known problem on the S62 engine in that they do not last very long and are expensive to replace. They also give a negative effect on the drivability of the M5 which many owners complain about such as jerky throttle response. AlphaN is where the air mass sensors are no longer used. Normally if they are unplugged the car will run under a reduced power mode, overfuel and bring up an engine management light with generally poor drivability. Our AlphaN upgrade is where we further develop the programme so that the S62 engine will run flawlessly without the air mass sensors. The overall smoothness of the engine is further improved over our standard ECU remap with the low speed drivability and general connectivity with the engine vastly improved.

This upgrade incorporates all of the features and benefits of the standard software above which include the power increase.

Additional Information: There is no issue of over fuelling but it is essential that the lambda sensors are working correctly (this is essential even without AlphaN) and you keep your air filters reasonably clean (which most enthusiasts will) in order to pass emissions testing. The MSS52 control uinit is fitted with a barometric pressure sensor and recieves inputs from other sensors (throttle position, lambda, intake air and coolant) to correctly calculate expected airflow and control fuelling.

Air mass sensors are used mainly for emissions purposes where manufacturers are required to setup their cars such that they will pass regulations under the most strigent conditions. For example, the cars will need to pass emissions tests before release with extremely continaminted oil with air filters which are almost blocked. Enthusiast drivers never allow such things to occur and therefore air mass sensors are not essential.

Some of the features that are changed

- full throttle fuel

- full throttle ignition aim

- part throttle ignition aim

- minimum ignition set

- torque calculation

- RPM limiter in 6th gear (set to 7000 from 6500rpm)

- speed limiter of 250km/h removed

- dyno rpm limiter removed (normally set to 5700rpm)

- sport button memory function enabled (sport button remains on permanent if set to on even after ignition is switched off)

- normal and sport throttle maps modified for smoother driving

- vanos intake and exhaust

- throttle opening maps (to achieve 100% opening)

Most E39 M5's will produce in the region of 390-395bhp on the dyno. With the ECU remap we generally see anything upto 410bhp once an adaptation time period has elapsed

Subframe Reinforcement

Many people have the cracking subframe in the back of their mind with the E46 M3's. Before any cracks could happen this customer decided to reinforce it before it could crack. Along with that we replaced the subframe bushings with AKG Polyurethane street/performance bushings. Also the front&rear brakes were replaced with Slotted rotors and Hawk Ceramic pads.

Front Control Arm Replacement

On an E46 M3 convertible we replaced two front control arms and the front control arm bushings. The bushings were replaced with rogue engineering FCABS which are one of the best options for a street car or track car. They offer two types of bushing inserts one for street and the other track. On this car the black bushings used are the street.

This M3 seems to not have put on any miles since he first became a customer. Not because he doesn't like the car but does not have the opportunity to drive it with his work schedule. The e46 m3 with 20k miles is becoming very rare as they get older. His car was in to get the inspection 1 done and during this we did, valve adjustment, diff fluid change, entire inspection of the car, and more. An extra thing we did was we now can offer convertible owners the ability to open and close their tops by the key fob.

Kris Von Sydow's 3rd Place Finish at Autobahn

This past holiday weekend Kris Von Sydow finished third place at the Continental Motors Group National at Autobahn Country Club. It was a hard earned weekend after Saturday morning when the transmission decided to give out and headers cracked. Kris needed to have his transmission switched out before qualifying that same afternoon and he got it done. However that afternoon the headers also managed to crack but Kris was still able to put down a solid qualifying time only 9 thousandths of a second off pole position. After this the headers were taken off to be re welded for the race on Sunday.

On Sunday Kris was able to pull off a third place even while dealing with slipping clutch. It seems that all bad things really do come in threes that weekend. Kris's next race will be July 23rd-24th at Road America for the Milwaukee Cat Nationals.

Fresh new Upgrades!

Recently on an E46 M3 we found a cracked sub frame on a customers car. Having this in the back of their head was not something they wanted. So the next week we took down the sub frame and repaired the crack along with reinforcing the areas that are prone to the problems. While replacing the sub frame the bushings were also replaced with AKG Street durometer bushings. The RTABS were replaced with powerflex. Along with the subframe, the suspension was upgraded to the Ground Control Street/school kit. This is one of the better kits out there as it comes with camber plates, and rear shock mounts. Many other kits out those items are extra.

NASA Time Trial E46 M3

On this E46 M3 we installed a set of turner motorsports sway bars along with rogue engineering front control arms. For this car it does time trails with NASA and needs to stay within the certain points regulations. Way it works is certain modifications count as a number of points and when a specific amount is reached the placement of the car changes. This is done to keep the competition fair.

The race is Sunday at 9am. This will be his first trip with SCCA to the autobahn even though it seems like autobahn is his home since he is there so much. While doing some regular repairs our customer decided to add something extra to change the look and performance of the car. The Mufflers were changed out for Dinan, wheels were repaired from curb rash and refinished in satin black. Also a new front bumper was needed and to go along with that a hamann style front lip was added. On the rear, the diffuser was changed out for a carbon fiber one.

Maintenance wise a new OEM BMW clutch was installed, Powerflex Thrust arm bushings, Front&Rear Brakes, and more. This M5 is now perfect Mechanically and looks better than when it came in.

This past weekend Kris Von Sydow was out at Road America for the 56th running of the June Sprints. The race was a rainy/foggy one which put a damper on things as all the practice and qualifying days were sunny. From the video in Kris's car at the start of the race, there was so much rain you could not see the brake lights of the person in front. Kris did a great job in the rain finishing 7th place out of a field of 13. With in the next few days their should be some pictures up of the weekend.

Kris's next race will be the weekend of July 2nd-3rd at Autobahn Country Club. This is another SCCA National race where Kris is currently the Cen Div National Points leader.

Kris Von Sydow's next race is coming up the weekend of June 17th-19th. It will be the 56th consecutive running of the June Sprints. What makes this event special it is considered part of the Triple Crown which is accomplishment for a driver who wins the June Sprints, National Point standing in their division, and the National Championship Runoffs. Road America is a great track to come out and watch the race. Kris is coming off a great weekend at Grattan Raceway and looks to continue at the June Sprints. Hope to see you out there!

GTS-2 Suspension Upgrade

This E36 M3 needed a new suspension update. The old set up was more for a regular street car that did not have the adjustment needed for race car. Now it will have two way adjustable coilovers by ground control suspension. Ground Control Makes some really nice kits that come with everything you need. Front Struts, shocks, Rear shock mounts, springs, and camber plates.

E36 M3 Rear Suspension Update

As the E36 m3 gets older it is a good idea to update the bushings to either new OEM or aftermarket. On this E36 M3 the Sub frame bushings, and differential bushings needed to be changed. The sub frame and differential were both changed out with AKG bushings. While the sub frame was out of the car the RTAB pockets were reinforced. This is a common preventative maintenance to do as they are known in E36 M3 to either crack or rip out. We took a few pictures of the reinforcement for you to see.

Kris Von Sydow SCCA Grattan Raceway 1st place finishes

This past memorial day weekend Kris Von Sydow of VS Motorsports placed 1st in SCCA Double National Race at Grattan raceway. This was his first trip out to the track and was a double race with one Saturday and the other Monday. On Saturday Kris was able to break the track record for T2 class!!!! His time of 1.27.291 is the new record, which broke the previous set in 2008. Kris is very proud of this as it was only his first time at the track and able to accomplish that time.

On Monday Kris had a second race with the best weather of the race season so far. It seems each weekend has been cold, cloudy, and rainy. However on Monday it was nice and sunny and ended with another 1st place finish to cap of the weekend.

Kris Von Sydow's next race will be for June Sprints at Road America. He will looking to have another great outing for the National race there. It will be the the weekend of June 17th-19th. The race will be the afternoon on June 19th for those that would like to come out and watch.
